Cove Lighting: Creative Illuminating Concept For Your Home Or Business

There are many interior lighting types that a homeowner or business owner can choose from when illuminating different rooms of a home, store, office, etc. KB Electric LLC blogged about recessed lighting, pendant lighting, low voltage under-cabinet lighting, track lighting, chandeliers, sconces, ballast lighting, high bay lights…the list goes on! Today we are going to look at cove lighting: an excellent choice for highlighting a certain area that brings ambiance for aesthetic appeal, or just for your general lighting use.

What Is Cove Lighting?

Take a look at the kitchen ceiling in the picture above. This is cove lighting, also known as ambient luminescence. It diffuses the light, spreading it out in an even warmth, minimizing shadows and glare. The light bounces off your ceiling and down the surrounding walls, creating an indirect form of lighting. The many types of cove fixtures are hidden, easily installed on crown molding, recesses, ledges, and valances for an uplighting effect.

Functions Of Cove Lighting

  • General lighting for illuminating a particular area
  • Ambiance lighting for setting a mood, or for providing a dramatic effect
  • Accent lighting for highlighting ceiling overhangs, designs, and certain features
