More than three years ago, I learned that my mother had been diagnosed with leukemia.  Over the next 10 months, my mother spent countless weeks in and out of the hospital for chemotherapy, at home therapy, and doctor visits.  On October 7, 2016, Pushpa Patel lost her battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Not due to her spirit or will to fight, but because of a disease that is not yet curable.   

Everyone knows somebody who has been affected by many types of cancer.  Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer while more than 1.3 million people are living with or are in remission from leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.  I believe that when something so powerful has impacted your life, it is your duty to support it.  That is why I have committed to supporting the work to find a cure for the rest of my life.

Through my work with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), I am honored to be nominated for 2019 Man of the Year, a fundraising campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) – Philadelphia chapter.  My goal over the next 10 weeks is to raise $50,000 to support talented scientists and clinicians deemed most likely to make important advances.  

My 2019 Man of the Year campaign title is LLS Cure for Moms because I want to help find a cure for blood cancer so every family can win the battle.  The fundraising begins on March 27th until the Grand Finale event on June 8th at the Loews Hotel Philadelphia.  I will be joined by my sister and campaign manager, Denise Patel, my wife Sheetal Patel, friends, and family who have generously committed their time and resources to support this campaign.  I welcome all friends, family, & colleagues to attend, purchase an ad, bid at the silent auction, and/or send a donation.
